I wanted to make a batch of 8 young musician ornament dolls with flutes made of polymer clay, which pretty much represents the main reason why I wanted to take up miniature sculpting in the 1st place. Over 5 years ago, I made my very 1st batch of musician dolls and used little musical instrument figurines from Safari Ltd.'s Safari Toob package to attach to those dolls. I did like how those ornament dolls turned out, but overtime, I could no longer find the Safari Toob instrument figurine package on any of the shops I go to making me realize that if I want to make more musician dolls, I would have to learn miniature sculpting and make the instruments myself. About a couple of years later with more experience in doll making and almost 2 years of working with polymer clay, it was quite an adventure in making the 8 pipers piping throughout at least 5 months it took me on and off. I had multiple art experiments in this one project from making certain hairstyles with felt that I have never done before, such as curls like the ones I made into a ponytail for this doll, to sculpting 8 little C flutes with Sculpey Premo clay, which had to have curved head joints in order to be kid ornament doll sized, to using superglue to attach the polymer clay flutes to the dolls. With new and familiar crafting techniques I used/tried out, the ornament dolls and polymer clay flutes all turned out to be a great success!
